Season is 25% completed.
Sixteen of the twenty teams have records of 20-22 or better and playoff hopes. The
trade wires have been still, only one trade (Cal-Srd) in the last month,
possibly because so many teams around .500.
Tombstone, California and
Nimrod look like the early teams to beat, each posting plus .600 winning
percentages.
Alex Gonzalez leads in
batting average (.368), doubles (20) and hits (64 tied with Reyes). His
leadership hasn’t helped fellow VRN teammate Mark Reynolds who has been rung up
61 times. Mark complains that he has drawn CJ Buckner behind the plate way too
often.
Brett Gardner leads with 23
steals, pacing ahead of his real life Yankee total of 49 swipes. Lance Berkman
currently has a 22 game hitting streak, longest this year.
Jered Weaver leads pitchers
with 8 wins; Jeremy Guthrie is second with 7 victories. Jose Valverde notched
14 saves thus far.
Next month starts
intradivisional play; so the congestion in middle division standings should
start to breakup.
