George Springer smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Hollywood Marines beat
the Palatine Cubs by a score of 8 to 5.
Springer enjoyed a great evening at the plate. Every time he came up in the
latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He clubbed a solo home
run in the 3rd inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning, doubled
plating a run in the 6th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 8th inning.
A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Darren O'Day(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. O'Day
got help from Ryan Sherriff who was credited with his 1st save. The losing
pitcher was Martin Perez(0-3). He surrendered 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings
and saw his ERA increase from 5.40 to 7.16.
'I felt great out there tonight,' Springer said, 'Maybe I should make a
regular habit of getting to bed on time!'
